Joy Reid claimed that MSNBC bosses were “terrified” by her presence on social media and repeatedly pressured her to stop tweeting before eventually canceling her premiums, The Reidout.
In a broad conversation with Katie Couric released on Monday at the new Reid Podcast, the former MSNBC president claimed that management on the Comcast’s left network discouraged him to engage with the internet audience for fear of giving her a lot of autonomy.
“Every time I would tweet everything, I would call – I would receive,” Please go down Twitter, we hate it, “Reid said.
“They simply dislike what attracts their talent and their reporters out of their control because now you are not directing what you are cicing through standards and practices. You are giving your personality directly to the audience, which they do not like because they are no longer managed and cured of them.”
The MSNBC reid program “The Reidout” was canceled in February as part of a broader programming adjustment led by the new network President Rebecca Kutler. Reid’s latest broadcast was broadcast on February 24th.
The cancellation occurred in the midst of a wide -ranging network that affected other hosts, including Alex Wagner and Katie Phang.
Reid remarks come before the beginning of June 9 “The Joy Reid Show”, a new Podcast and YouTube series.
She posted the interview with Couric on her website and the Youtube channel, marking her most sincere remarks still about her departure from MSNBC in February.
The network did not provide public explanations when it canceled Reidout, causing speculation that the decision was part of a broader shock after the election after Donald Trump’s return to the Presidency.
Some non -white anchors were left to go at the same time. Former Msnbc Prophet Keith Olbermann called it “a msnbc sweep so brutally that makes you think it is made of [Elon] Musk. “
When Couric asked her directly what led her to her break, Reid said she is still unsure.
“I’ve been asked so many times,” she said. “And people think I’m just saying it in BS but I’m honest with you – I don’t know.”
Reid said she learned about the cancellation not long after exchanging email with the MSNBC public relations team, celebrating the NaACP image price victory.
Reid insisted that the cancellation had nothing to do with poor estimates.
“There were no ratings,” she said. “As soon as we had a rating a few weeks before this talking about the fact that our show … besides Rachel Maddow, we were less,” in the wake of Trump’s victory.
“We were just told we were doing … that we were holding quite well,” Reid added. “And then, you know, it’s not that ratings have been done better since I went.”
She described the way the news was given as “written” and “just very perfect”, noting that she received no specific reason for the show.
“I didn’t say” the ratings were terrible “,” it’s something you did “,” you tweet a terrible thing, “she said, adding that she had already been” extra careful “online amid growing concerns within social media talent.
Although Reid said she did not believe her open criticism of Trump was the reason for canceling her show, she admitted she might have played a role.
“I’m a black woman who is doing anything. You know what I mean?” She said.
“I think there is a difference for Trump in listening to the types of criticism, specifically, by a black woman. This concerns her in a way that doesn’t bother her like nothing else.”
“There is a fear of him,” Reid added. “We’re seeing it anywhere.”
Reid has faced numerous controversy over the years, starting with the reappearance of homophobic posts on the blog from its immature site, “Reid Report”.
Initially claiming that her blog was hacked, Reid later admitted that there was no evidence to support her, though she posted the posts did not reflect her views.
She also apologized for past tweets, mocking Ann Coulter and Lindsey Graham in sexist and homophobic tongue.
In 2020, Reid was accused of Islamophobia after comparing Trump’s rhetoric to that of radical Islamic leaders, causing reactions from Muslim-American groups.
Recently, while covering the MSNBC elections in 2024, she called Florida a “fascist government” and criticized voters of white women in North Carolina not to support Kamala Harris, blaming them for the failure of the state to protect the rights of abortion.
Reid also aroused controversy with her response to the attempt to kill Trump, suggesting that his rhetoric may have helped promote political violence.
Critics accused her of minimizing the seriousness of the attack and demanded that her performance be canceled.
