The Washington Post admitted Tuesday that a request in its latest report that Israeli soldiers killed dozens of civilians in Gaza could not be verified.
The exit shared a post on X, saying he had updated his Sunday article to reflect that he could not verify that Israeli troops killed about 30 civilians near a US aid site in Gaza. The previous version of the section reported that the Israeli army had committed the killings.
“The article and the title were updated Sunday evening, making it clear that there was no consensus on who was responsible for the shooting and that there was a dispute over the question,” the social media post reads.
At least 26 Palestinians were reported to have been killed and about 175 were injured over the weekend as they made their way to get food in the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas -led Ministry of Health officials and witnesses.
Witnesses said Israeli forces fired on crowds about 1,000 yards away from a place of aid led by the Israeli -backed Humanitarian Gaza Foundation (GHF). A Palestinian journalist told the BBC that thousands of Palestinians had gathered near the aid site near the southern town of Rafah Gaza as the Israeli tanks approached and opened fire on the crowd.
However, IDF has discussed these claims, saying they “are currently unaware of the damage caused by the IDF fire within the humanitarian aid distribution”, adding that “the issue is still under consideration”.
“I am false and fabricated. All aid was distributed today without incidents,” GHF said. “No injury or death as mentioned in our daily update sent earlier. We have heard that these false reports have been actively driven by Hamas. They are untrue and fabricated.”
However, as a note by an editor in the updated Washington Post said, the post reported on Sunday that “Israeli troops had killed more than 30 people near an American aid site, with the title attributing to the” Health Officials “.
“The article failed to clarify whether the attribution of deaths in Israel was the position of the Ministry of Health in Gaza or a fact verified by the post,” read the note.
The body of the updated part reported victims, but this time, idf did not blame. He said, “At least 31 people were killed and 170 others injured, most of them with gunshots in the extremities and upper body, according to local health officials and doctors who treated the victims.”
“While three witnesses said the firefighter came from Israeli military positions, Israeli defense forces denied the allegations, saying in a statement that an initial investigation indicated that its soldiers were not lit by civilians while they were close to or inside the distribution site,” the new part added.
The editor’s note confirmed that “the article and the title were updated Sunday evening and for the printed edition Monday, making it clear that there was no consensus on who was responsible for the shooting and that there was a dispute over that question.”
She added, “the post did not give it a proper weight to the denial of Israel and gave improper truth about what was known for some Israeli role in the shooting. Early versions fell from the Washington Post standards and should not have been published in that form.”
Reps for the Washington Post did not respond immediately to Fox News Digital’s request for additional comment.
