WABC-TV ‘EYEWITNESS News’ announces the great reorganization of the formation that includes veteran’s anchor Bill Ritter: ‘feels like a good time to make this change’

The long anchor “Eyewitness News” Bill Ritter withdrew from the 5th afternoon broadcast on Wabc-Tv Channel 7, making way to a new co-spiral as he continued his presence in the station evening lineup.

Ritter, 75, passed the torch to the reporter and anchor Mike Marza, who joined Sade Baderinwa as a co-span of the 5th Eyewitness News on Tuesday.

“I’ve been anchoring the news at 6 pm since 2001, and I performed the 11th afternoon from 1999 to just a few years ago,” Ritter told The Post.

“This is three shows one night for a long time. I’m almost 75 and a half-feel as a good time to make this change.”

Ritter, a major pillar of New York City television journalism for decades, stressed that he is not retired. He will continue the co-monitor of “Eyewitness News on the 6th afternoon” on the days of the week along with Liz Cho and host “Up Close”, the morning policy program Sunday morning.

Ritter had followed the legendary local journalist Bill Beutel at 11:00 the news.

Marza joined WABC in 2019 after working at KSHB in Kansas City.

“We have a lot of people here who have been on Channel 7 for a long time, including me, and now we are looking at the future. I will still work here for a longer time,” Ritter Post told him.

He continued to mark the importance of mentoring and success.

“I want to take these young people to the show – it’s a big thing,” he said. “I am happy to start opening the door to some other people. I will be here and work with them, and it will be great.”

The transition is particularly significant for ritter on a personal level.

Ritter and Cho have been co-monitoring news for more than two decades.

“On the same day this change happened, I became a grandfather. It is a moving thing,” he shared. “No one has ever been as old as I am in the news of eyewitnesses. I want to spend more time with my family, my children and now my new nephew. But I will still be here.”

Reflecting in his decades-long partnership with Cho, he added, “She is doing 6 with me longer than any anchor team in Channel 7. We started together in July 2003, so this month marks our 22nd anniversary.”

“I am honored to be part of Channel 7, the largest station in the country, and I will continue to be part of it. Nice nice to get this kind of recognition – and it’s not for a funeral! I’m still here.”
